StreamAgent vs. Tolstoy: interactive video for stores or for pipelines?
The closest comparison in the category. Tolstoy points interactive video at the storefront and the cart. StreamAgent points it at captured, scored, ranked leads.
Of every product in this series, Tolstoy shares the most DNA with StreamAgent. They believed early that video should ask questions and react, and their branching quizzes still do. But by 2026 Tolstoy has committed hard to one world: it calls itself an AI ecommerce platform, five thousand Shopify brands deep, with shoppable feeds, an AI content studio, and an AI shopping agent that answers sizing questions inside the video. That choice is what this comparison is really about.
The short answer
Tolstoy is built for the storefront. Swipeable shoppable feeds, product-tagged clips, in-video add-to-cart, catalog-scale AI content generation, and a shopping agent that recommends sizes and products. Every piece points at one outcome: checkout.
StreamAgent is built for the pipeline. Long-form pitches with branching paths, capture gates at peak interest, quizzes that score intent, native lead intelligence ranking every viewer, and CAPI conversion events streaming to your ad platforms. Every piece points at a different outcome: a qualified person your team can close.
Same instinct, different finish line: add to cart versus ready to talk.
| Tolstoy | StreamAgent | |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Ecommerce storefronts: shoppable feeds and product-tagged clips | Pipelines: pitches that turn viewers into scored, ranked leads |
| Branching | Quiz-style flows that recommend the right product | Full funnels: paths, gates, and scored questions on long-form pitches |
| What a captured contact becomes | A subscriber pushed to Klaviyo or HubSpot | A scored lead with a dossier, ranked on a call sheet |
| Testing | A/B-tested clip serving on your store pages | Smart Rotations behind any link, judged on captures and lead quality |
| Ad platforms | Campaign connectors and paste-in pixel codes | Intent-graded CAPI conversion events, browser and server, four platforms |
| Where AI helps | Making and selling product content: studio, shopping agent, try-on | Reading results: an assistant you ask which video prints leads |
Credit where due: the ecommerce machine is real
If you run a store, Tolstoy has built something genuinely strong. AI Studio generates product videos at catalog scale, the player A/B tests which clips serve and personalizes by behavior, the AI Shopper answers fit questions and runs virtual try-on, and the whole thing syndicates out to the Shop app and TikTok Shop. For moving products off shelves, that is a serious, focused stack, and we would not pretend otherwise.
Branching, but for a different question
Tolstoy’s branching asks the merchandising question: which product fits this shopper? A quiz routes to a recommendation, and the flow ends at a cart. StreamAgent’s branching asks the pipeline question: who is this person and how ready are they? Paths run on long-form pitches, the VSL, the webinar replay, the demo. Answers carry scores. Gates land at each path’s peak-interest moment, and the flow ends at a booked call with a ranked lead attached. Same mechanism, aimed at different economics.
After the capture, the trail ends
Tolstoy can collect an email or phone number in-video and push it to Klaviyo or HubSpot as a subscriber, and for ecommerce lifecycle flows that is enough. But that is where their trail ends: no intent score, no ranking, no per-viewer dossier anywhere in the product. StreamAgent’s lead intelligence is the product: watch behavior, declared answers, and path choices become one score, every lead lands ranked with its full journey attached, and your AI assistant can be asked which video, and which version of it, produces the leads that close.
Ads: pixels you paste versus signals you stream
Tolstoy’s conversion tracking is paste-your-own: drop your Google and Meta tracking codes into project settings and events fire from the browser. Its Meta and TikTok connectors manage campaigns and creatives; there is no server-side conversion dispatch, no Google Ads conversion upload, and no LinkedIn integration at all. StreamAgent streams intent-graded conversion events to Meta, Google, TikTok, and LinkedIn through each platform’s Conversions API, from browser and server, deduplicated. For a lead-gen business buying traffic, that is the difference between ads that count and ads that learn.
Choose Tolstoy if
- You run an online store and want shoppable, product-tagged video everywhere.
- AI-generated product content and try-on fit your catalog and margins.
- Checkout, not conversation, is the conversion you care about.
Choose StreamAgent if
- You sell with a pitch: services, courses, software, high-ticket offers.
- You want leads scored, ranked, and delivered with dossiers, not pushed to a list.
- You want versions competing behind one link with Smart Rotations.
- You buy traffic and want intent-graded CAPI events training all four platforms.
If you sell products off a shelf, Tolstoy made its choice for you, and it is a good one. If you sell with a story, pick the platform whose every layer was built to finish it.
Two products, one belief, different registers: carts for them, calls for you.
One platform, seven layers
This article covered one slice. The machine ships whole: record it, get it found, arm it, test it, rank the leads, train the ads, and ask your AI how it is going.
